Background

Infineon Technologies and VinRobotics, a Vietnam-based company, have signed a memorandum of understanding to work together on the development of humanoid robots, combining semiconductor expertise with state-of-the-art robotics and artificial intelligence capabilities.

The partnership will establish a joint competency centre at VinRobotics’ headquarters in Hanoi to support research, product development and innovation activities. The initiative is aimed at accelerating the creation of next-generation humanoid robots for use across industrial, service and consumer applications.

According to the deal, Infineon will allow its technology suite, comprising microcontrollers, power semiconductors, sensors, connectivity systems, safety and security systems to be used by Hanson Robotics. These systems are believed to help with robot capabilities such as locomotion, perception of environment, communication and power management.

This partnership is an indicator of how semiconductors have become more important in humanoid robots, which are aimed at becoming more advanced and smart. There has been more focus on the integration of hardware and artificial intelligence to increase the efficiency of robots.

It also shows that Southeast Asia has become one of the main players in the robotics industry. Rising investment in industrial automation and manufacturing modernization across the region is driving demand for advanced robotic systems and related technologies.

Infineon estimates that a humanoid robot can contain approximately $500 worth of semiconductor components. The company provides technologies covering sensing, computing, motor control, connectivity, functional safety and cybersecurity, all of which are critical for advanced robotic platforms.

The collaboration is expected to contribute to the development of future humanoid robots while strengthening the region’s position in the global robotics industry.
